Rutley was re-signed by the Alouettes on Monday, Herb Zurkowsky of the Montreal Gazette reports.

Rutley returns to the Alouettes after his best professional season in 2016 in which he took 113 carries for 495 yards (4.4 YPC) and four touchdowns. He figures to serve as the No.2 running back behind Tyrell Sutton once the season gets underway.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Rutley carried the ball six times for 25 yards while adding two catches for nine yards in Saturday's win over the Tiger-Cats.

It was his worst rushing performance since Week 2, although Rutley didn't manage to run for more than 70 yards in any game this season. He finishes the year with a modest career high in rushing yards (495) as well as receptions (35) and receiving yards (305), but he'll need to stay healthy if he's going to significantly improve on those numbers in 2017.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Rutley carried the ball 10 times for 45 yards and a touchdown while adding three catches for 15 yards in Saturday's loss to the Stampeders.

The Alouettes' offense didn't score its first points until the fourth quarter, but Rutley was still able to find a way to post useful numbers. He's now set a career high with 296 receiving yards, in addition to career bests in touchdowns (five) and receptions (33) on the season.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Rutley gained 36 yards and scored a touchdown on 11 carries and totaled 25 yards on five receptions in Monday's 40-20 loss to the Eskimos.

The 28-year-old got off to a solid start in the first half with a rushing touchdown early in the second quarter, but found it to be tough sledding on the ground for the remainder of the contest. Rutley was able to also muster some decent production in the passing game with his second-highest reception total of the season, which helped to make up for some of the lost rushing opportunities brought about by the Als' considerable second-half deficit. Despite the average performance overall, Rutley should receive the bulk of the workload in the ground game for the balance of the campaign.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Rutley will start at running back in Monday's game against the Eskimos, Didier Ormejuste of RDS reports.

Rutley landed on the six-game injured list last week, but he is apparently not dealing with a serious setback, as he will return to the lineup just one week later and start in place of the injured Tyrell Sutton (ribs). Rutley worked as the Alouettes' primary running back when Sutton was injured earlier this season and filled in well, averaging 83 total yards per contest.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

The Alouettes placed Rutley on the six-game injured list Saturday with an undisclosed injury.

Rutley was not listed on the Alouettes' depth chart for Week 15, and it's not clear that the reason was injury-related. It's not clear when Rutley will be ready to play next, but he could miss the rest of the season.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Rutley is not listed on the depth chart for Sunday's game against the Argonauts.

Rutley has been listed as the backup running back for most of the season, but he has not had a carry since Week 9, so the team chose to deactivate him this week. Tyrell Sutton will serve as the Alouettes' primary running back like he regularly does, and Stefan Logan will be next in line if needed.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Rutley is not in the lineup for Friday's game against Hamilton, Herb Zurkowsky of the Montreal Gazette reports.

There's been no word that Rutley is battling an injury so it appears to be just a healthy scratch as the 27-year-old sits for a fourth game in a row. When the wideout has seen playing time, he's been highly efficient, hauling in 25 of 27 passes thrown his way for 256 yards and two touchdowns this season.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Rutley gained 47 yards on eight carries and added 24 yards and a touchdown on three receptions in Friday's 43-19 victory over the Redblacks.

The 28-year-old tailback's services weren't needed much on a day when QB Kevin Glenn was seemingly able to pass at will against the Redblacks defense. Rutley still managed to make the most of his rather abbreviated opportunities and contributed his second receiving touchdown on the season in the fourth quarter. The outing was Rutley's third with single-digit carries in the last five games, as his touches continue to see some fluctuation week to week.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Rutley gained 43 yards on 12 carries and added 55 yards on six receptions in Thursday's 23-12 loss to the Eskimos.

A week after a season-low seven touches, Rutley was heavily involved on a night in which the downfield passing game struggled with consistency. The San Jose State product's reception total was a high on the season, while the 12 carries equaled the most he's received in game during 2016. The 28-year-old continues to be an important complementary cog of the Als' offensive machine in most games and will try to help keep the Redblacks off balance in Week 9.

August 5, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Rutley carried the ball six times for 48 yards and catching one pass for nine yards in Thursday's loss to the Lions.

Given the yardage he was gaining per touch, it's fair to wonder if the Alouettes could have gotten the win if they'd made Rutley a bigger part of the offense. In four games since taking over as the starting RB, Rutley's gained 164 rushing yards and 162 receiving yards while scoring two TDs despite averaging just 12.5 touches per game.

July 30, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Rutley ran the ball 12 times for 42 yards while catching four passes for 65 yards and a touchdown in Friday's rout of the Roughriders.

After scoring his first TD of the season Monday, Rutley wasted no time in getting back into the end zone. As long as Tyrell Sutton (knee) remains out of action, Rutley should continue being productive as Montreal's lead RB.

July 26, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Rutley carried the ball nine times for 45 yards and a touchdown while adding four catches for 28 yards in Monday's loss to the Argos.

He's been a solid, if unspectacular, replacement for the injured Tyrell Sutton (knee) and Rutley now has 183 combined yards and a score through three games. Sutton doesn't yet have an official timetable for his return, so Rutley should continue to see the bulk of the touches out of Montreal's backfield for the foreseeable future.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Rutley carried the ball 10 times for 29 yards but added four catches for 60 yards in Friday's loss to the Tiger-Cats.

Getting the start in place of the injured Tyrell Sutton (knee), Rutley couldn't find any running room against a tough Hamilton defensive line but was able to do some damage through the air. With Sutton sidelined for at least five more games, Rutley likely showed enough to keep the starting job for now.
